Our K4 Program

The K4 program has been a great success at FBCS. Mrs. Michelle Leitch is our morning teacher. Mrs. Barb Frymier is our extended care teacher in the afternoons. The program offered by First Baptist Christian School is structured for the four year old child who has turned four by August 1st or for the "young" five year old child who is not quite ready for a regular Kindergarten program. Children must be potty-trained to be a part of this program.

Our K4 is a hands-on, developmentally-appropriate, theme-based, and biblically-integrated program. Children will be introduced to letters/phonics, number concepts, colors, and shapes. The curriculum will also include health, safety, manners and large and small development activities. A time of prayer and biblical instruction is included in each day's schedule. Children will be involved in role-playing, interest/learning centers, art, and music. The learning or interest centers will allow children to develop appropriate social skills. The academic portion of this program will be presented in the morning sessions. The program has been designed to prepare students to enter the Kindergarten program for the next school year.

Accreditation

The K4 program is a part of the educational program of First Baptist Christian School. First Baptist Christian School was founded in 1976. The school is chartered by the State Department of Education and is a member of the Association of Christian Schools International.

Non-Discrimination Policy

The K4 admits students of any race, color, national or ethnic origin to all the rights, privileges, programs and activities generally accorded to students at the school.

Release of Child

No child shall be released from the school facilities to anyone other than their parent or guardian, unless prior notification has been given to the school by written request or verified phone call. The requests must state the name of the person and relationship to the child. The person will also need picture identification. The school will not allow children to leave the facilities with any unknown, unverified person. At the end of the school day, a child must be picked up at his/her room by the authorized person.

Class Size and Student/Teacher Ratio

Class size will be based on the size of the classroom with a maximum class size of 25. The teacher/student ratio is one teacher per fourteen students. Classes with more than fourteen students will have both a lead teacher and a teacher's aide.

School Calendar and Closings

The K4 program will follow the calendar for First Baptist Christian School. The school is always closed for holidays such as Memorial Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve, Christmas, and New Years.

Closing the K4 for bad weather, etc. will be done to ensure the safety of the school's children, families, and staff. Closings will be posted with all other school closings on local TV and radio stations.

Supervision of Children

    1. No child shall ever be left unsupervised.
    2. Parents shall walk their child to their designated classroom and make sure that the staff member in charge is aware that the child is in attendance.
    3. Staff will have immediate access to a working telephone at all times.
    4. Monthly fire drills will be conducted at least once each month. A record of drills is kept and is available upon request.
    5. Fire emergency and weather alert plans are posted in each classroom. Plans include a diagram showing evacuation routes, action to be taken, and staff responsibilities.

Parent Participation

Parents can feel free to contact the program director when assistance is needed with problems or concerns related to their child. Parents are welcome to discuss their child's needs and progress with their teacher. If parents have a question, comment or concern, they are encouraged to speak with the teacher or program director.

Withdrawal/Termination

Parents must give one week's notice before withdrawing their child. If this notice is not given, the parents will be responsible to pay one week of tuition. The program director may determine it necessary to end its services for a child. Termination of services will be effective upon the school's notification of the parents.
